True Indian lovers in Nottingham will already be familiar with this acclaimed restaurant on Maid Marian Way a modern space with bucket-loads of style and a menu that had the restaurant nominated in the UKs top five curries by The Observer Great Food Guide 2006. This ornate, luxe dining room is dressed with maroon coloured feature walls, Indian craftwork and chocolate leather sofas. The wine list is mostly Euro with a few antipodean bottles thrown in for good measure, and signature dishes at MemSaab include the tandoori ostrich infused with garlic and red chilli; and the rasmalai dessert - Indian milk patties in a saffron sauce garnished with edible rose petals.

Merchants Restaurant
Nottingham’s uber-trendy Lace Market area may have its pick of bars and restaurants but for a real dining experience Merchants tops the list. Designed by renowned architect David Collins, the name behind many of Marco Pierre White’s ventures the interior is truly lush. Reflective ceilings, chainmail light fixtures and red leather seating give a boudoir-ish feel just the right side of decadent. The hearty, British fayre on offer is something of a surprise, but a pleasant one of course. Where you might have expected formulaic poseur French cuisine, Merchants’ chef serves up unpretentious but beautiful and somewhat experimental food on an A La Carte or Prix Fixe basis.

Opium
For some years now Nottingham’s Lace Market has been the place to enjoy a night out in the East Midlands. Slightly off the beaten track on Warser Gate is Opium, a tempting bar and restaurant with a reputation for lush food, chic surroundings and, of course, seriously cool clientele. The Piccolo Ristorante Italiano chain of restaurants in Nottingham have earned themselves an excellent reputation for their authentic dishes, unpretentious service and cosy surrounds. Located on Front Street in Arnold, this restaurant has a relaxed and cheerful vibe making it a perfect neighbourhood hang-out. The interior is a mix of crimson walls filled with mirrors and framed pictures and oversized, comfy tan leather sofas which makes Piccolo a suitable spot for group dining or romantic tables for two, and highlights from the menu include the Fiorentina pizza topped with spinach, Parmesan and egg, and the Matrigiana pasta cooked with bacon, onions, olives and capers all washed down with a bottle of hearty Montepulciano wine.
